The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)

June 2, 2010

I am a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), an organization founded in 1951 that includes over 52,000 medical professionals around the country. The Congress has four primary aims to serve its members: advocating for quality healthcare for women, maintaining high clinical standards and continuing education, educating the public about the changing issues facing women’s health, and increasing patient education, understanding, and involvement. Being involved with the Congress is an invaluable resource for obstetricians and gynecologists, providing vital information relating to women’s health and reporting on groundbreaking studies. A great benefit that ACOG offers its members is access to its important industry publications, including the Clinical Review newsletter that reports on new developments in the field. The Clinical Review also offers important historical perspectives and extensive coverage of controversial issues, approaching the problems from all angles. Members can also keep up to date through the Congress’ monthly publication, the ACOG Today Newsletter, and the Committee Opinions papers that explore the points of view of different committees within the organization. The ACOG publishes multiple educational and technical bulletins, healthcare guides, and patient pamphlets. The ACOG holds an Annual Clinical Meeting, which will take place in San Francisco this year. The Annual Clinical Meeting provides an essential networking and educational opportunity. The meeting is divided into a Scientific Program that gives researchers a chance to present on their innovative studies through hands-on research, an Educational Program that is designed to reflect the rapidly changing women’s health industry, and Social Events for meeting colleagues and forging lasting professional relationships. This year’s meeting is also a gathering of over 350 pharmaceutical companies, equipment manufacturers, medical suppliers, healthcare providers, and book publishers to interact with the professionals in attendance and exhibit their unique new products and services.
